Why does a large cat need a bigger den?

A cat looking for a hideaway wants to feel the walls against their body - that's what gives them the sense of shelter. But at the same time, they need to fit comfortably: getting in without squeezing, lying on their side with legs stretched out, turning over and changing position while they sleep.

A Maine Coon can reach up to 120 cm from nose to tail tip. A Ragdoll weighs 6-9 kg. A Norwegian Forest Cat, 5-9 kg. For these breeds, standard dens designed around 3-5 kg cats are too tight. A cat that has to squeeze in, or can't stretch out, won't use the den - they'll pick a cupboard, the space under a bed, or somewhere else that gives them enough room.

Which large cat dens are available?

A bigger entrance opening, more room inside, a reinforced structure. BONBON DELUXE has decorative appliqués. BONBON with buttons is the variant with decorative buttons. These are the roomiest soft dens in the PRASKA range.

ARENA plywood dens are structures in hardwood plywood with a fabric cover. Without the cover, ARENA works as an open playground with a sensory mat. With the cover on, it becomes an enclosed den. The standard ARENA, and the FOREST, GARDEN, AQUA, and LOVE collection versions, are designed for large cats. ARENA XXL is the biggest model - it works well for Maine Coons over 8 kg, and in multi-cat households, where 2 cats can lie in the den at once.

CAT CAB works well for cats up to around 6-7 kg who like a closed, soft hideaway. A soft structure, easy to move around, no assembly needed.

BONBON is the choice for the biggest breeds, once CAT CAB is too small. More room inside, and the premium faux fur gives both warmth and a soft surface for kneading.

ARENA is a 2-in-1 solution - a den and a playground in one. It works well when a cat needs both a hideaway and somewhere to be active. The plywood structure is the most durable of the three. Covers can be taken off for washing and swapped out seasonally.

Hygiene for a large cat's den
