How a step works in a cat wall

A step is the basic piece that lets a cat reach higher levels. Your cat jumps onto it as a first level, pauses, looks around, scratches the felt and moves on to the next piece. That is why steps usually start the route or link shelves, bridges and hammocks.

Models in this category

There are three steps in this category. They differ in shape and size.

STEP and STEP OVAL

These are compact steps that fit easily into a wall layout. They work like a wall shelf with a scratching surface. The felt is non-slip, and no metal parts are visible on the step. We sand the plywood by hand and lacquer it three times. STEP OVAL has a larger, oval surface.

STEP OLIVE

The largest step in this category. It is a stable platform with three roles: a step on the climbing route, a place to rest and a scratching surface. It comes with two self-adhesive felt pads, screws, wall anchors and installation instructions. You can attach the CAT CAB cat cave, which has special fittings, to STEP OLIVE to create a cozy hideaway.

Felt as a scratching surface

Every step has self-adhesive felt. Your cat scratches it on the way, between one jump and the next. When it wears out, peel it off and stick on a new one, without replacing the whole step.

Plywood color

Choose natural plywood or one of the available colors. This way the steps match the shelves already on your wall, or your home.

Part of a cat wall

The steps are compatible with the PRASKA system. Combine them with cat wall shelves and wall bridges and hammocks, and over time expand the route into a full climbing wall. If you are starting from scratch, take a look at cat wall shelf sets, where the layout is already planned.

Care

Wipe the plywood with a damp cloth, without strong detergents or anything containing chlorine. You can vacuum the felt or wipe it gently with a damp cloth. Spare felt pads are in Self-Adhesive Replacement Felt.

What is a wall step for cats used for?

It helps your cat reach higher levels and move between them. It works as a launch point while climbing, a link between shelves and, thanks to its felt surface, a place to scratch.

How is a step different from a wall shelf?

A step is smaller and is mainly for passing through: your cat jumps on, pauses for a moment and moves on. A shelf gives more room for a longer rest. In a cat wall, steps and shelves usually complement each other.

Will the steps work with the PRASKA shelves I already have?

Yes. The steps are compatible with the PRASKA system, so you can add them to the shelves, bridges and hammocks already on your wall. You can match the plywood color to what is already there.

What is included?

STEP and STEP OVAL come with the step, one self-adhesive felt pad and a set of wall anchors. STEP OLIVE comes with two self-adhesive felt pads, screws, wall anchors and installation instructions.

Can I replace the felt on a step?

Yes. The felt is self-adhesive, so you peel off the worn pad and stick on a new one. Felt for STEP, STEP OVAL and STEP OLIVE is in Self-Adhesive Replacement Felt.

Will the steps work for a large cat?

A cat weighing up to 22 lbs (10 kg) will be comfortable on PRASKA shelves and platforms. The largest surface in this category is on STEP OLIVE, 13.8 × 9.1 in (35 × 23 cm). If you are unsure, send us a message and we will help you choose a step for your cat.

Can I choose the color of the step?

Yes. You choose the plywood color when you order: natural or one of the colors offered in the product variants.
