Patchwork is a technique, not a shade

PATCHWORK is the craft of joining separate pieces into one coherent whole. It began as a way of giving fabric a second life, and today it is a deliberate design choice. In the PRASKA workshop we treat it like painting: instead of paint we use fabric, setting textures, tones and prints against one another.

That is what sets this category apart from PRASKA's other lines. GARDEN, FOREST, AQUA and LOVE are particular fabrics applied to familiar furniture models. PATCHWORK is a way of sewing, and it is where those fabrics meet inside a single product.

PATCHWORK mats and their sizes

Four mats measuring 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm) come in fixed fabric arrangements, each with its own name: LAZUR, OLIWKA, PUDER and LATTE. LAZUR sets deep navy, soft blue and milky white against delicate floral prints. The mat is around 2.4 in (6 cm) thick, with a tolerance of 0.6 in (1.5 cm).

The fifth item in the category, the PATCHWORK cat bed, is the same mat in four sizes: 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm), 27.6 × 39.4 in (70 × 100 cm), 47.2 × 47.2 in (120 × 120 cm) and 59.1 × 59.1 in (150 × 150 cm). You do not pick the fabric arrangement here. We do, and you can note a preferred palette in your order comments.

PATCHWORK nests and the other collections

Three nests combine the patchwork technique with fabrics from other lines: PATCHWORK LOVE NATURAL, PATCHWORK FOREST and PATCHWORK AQUA. Inside sits a removable, double-sided cushion, finished in soft fur on one face. The nest stands 5.5 in (14 cm) high, and PATCHWORK LOVE NATURAL comes in diameters of 15.7, 17.7 and 19.7 in (40, 45 and 50 cm).

Filling, sewing and washing

Mats and nests are filled with a resilient silicone fiber wadding made specially for PRASKA. It does not clump or roll, so the piece holds its shape for years. Mats at 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm) and 27.6 × 39.4 in (70 × 100 cm), and all of the nests, wash at 86 °F (30 °C) with a spin of up to 800 rpm. The two largest mats, 47.2 × 47.2 in (120 × 120 cm) and 59.1 × 59.1 in (150 × 150 cm), go to dry cleaning. Everything is sewn by hand in Poland.

How is PATCHWORK different from PRASKA's other collections?

The other collections are fabric lines applied to familiar models: a cave, a nest, a mat. PATCHWORK is a sewing technique. Instead of one fabric, several meet in a single product, chosen so that they read as one composition.

Can I choose the pattern of a mat?

With the four mats at 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm) you buy a specific arrangement: LAZUR, OLIWKA, PUDER or LATTE. With the mat that runs from 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm) to 59.1 × 59.1 in (150 × 150 cm), we make the selection. What sizes are the mats and nests?

Mats: 27.6 × 23.6 in (70 × 60 cm), 27.6 × 39.4 in (70 × 100 cm), 47.2 × 47.2 in (120 × 120 cm) and 59.1 × 59.1 in (150 × 150 cm), around 2.4 in (6 cm) thick. The PATCHWORK LOVE NATURAL nest: 15.7, 17.7 or 19.7 in (40, 45 or 50 cm) across and 5.5 in (14 cm) high. A tolerance of 0.6 in (1.5 cm) applies to both.

How do I care for PATCHWORK pieces?

Wash at 86 °F (30 °C), spin up to 800 rpm, no bleach. The fabric dries quickly. The two largest mats need dry cleaning instead. The nest cushion lifts out, so you can wash it on its own.

Does every piece look different?

Yes. Fabric offcuts are picked by hand from what PRASKA has in stock at the time, so each mat and each nest has its own palette and its own run of seams. That is the point of the design, not a deviation from a template.
